Paper Pro's and Con's
Non-UNCW Papers
1. 13 Ways of Looking at Bill Murray
Pro: Fun topic, crowd pleaser
Con: No scholarly sources, under researched, undefined thesis statement, reads like a summary or blog
2. A Radical Expedition of Cinema's Birthplace
Pro: Well written (besides a few very long sentences--but it flows nonetheless), plenty of sources, detailed film analysis
Con: Long-winded at times, would of liked to see more sentence variation, thesis is quite long, may have gone a bit crazy w/ the thesaurus..but who knows.
3. Cinematic Expression of Ghosts in Japanese Film
Pro: They provided imagery & captions
Con: Some quotations aren't cited (in-text), lack of transitions, generalizations, analysis and imagery seem to get away from original thesis--kind of a bummer, this topic seems cool; seems like a summary/analysis of particular scenes w/ no argument
4. Irreversible & Techniques of Looking
Pro: Well written thesis and accessible, well researched
Con: To provocative/touchy? Not my concern at all....
5. Murders Unavenged
Pro: Very cool topic, would like to see a more defined thesis, well-written
Con: Thesis is hard to locate; would almost like to see actual police procedures/psychological analysis utilized for this topic--as far a research goes
6. Storybooks and Female Empowerment
Pro: Nice topic especially b/c of Kiva, well-researched and detailed analysis
Con: Honestly got a little bored reading this--was not expecting this b/c of Pan's
7. Blues Brothers and Bollywood Masala Cinema
Pro: Definite crowd pleaser, creative topic and analysis--well written
Con: Would like to have seen an emphasis more on the impact of the thesis long-term--what does this mean for film? What are the implications?
8. Transmedia Adaptation in the Work of Orson Welles
Pro: VERY well-researched, great sources; pleased to see how original this paper actually is
Con: Pretty darn long--may be a programming risk?
UNCW Papers
1. Boys Will be Girls
Pro: Great topic and original--presented a lot of information for me, well-written/concise; good for Kiva!
Con: NONE
2. Cinema du Corps and Avant Garde Cinematography
Pro: Good thesis--very accessible and well-written
Con: Very long and detailed (a bad thing?), a little wordy
3. Multi-Screen Film
Pro: Love the originality and implication of multi-screen projection & potential new ways of viewing cinema.
Con: Thesis is hard to locate--analysis of these 2 films?
4: The Unfilmable Lightness of Being
Pro: Very detailed and in-depth analysis--very good read, well-written
Con: Very long as well; a few typos
